WHAT'S NEWS
One Million Pillowcase Challenge

"Calling all quilters, sewers and crafters! American Patchwork & Quilting is challenging you to join our efforts to Make a Pillowcase, Make a Difference. Every pillowcase can make a difference in your community. A pillowcase can provide comfort for a cancer patient, hope for a foster child, encouragement for a battered woman, or beauty for a nursing home resident."

My Sewing Room will be offering our first almost free pillowcase class on Monday January 18th at 1:30pm!

The price of admission is the first pillowcase you make stays with us for donation to a local charity and your second pillowcase goes home with you. We are still looking for possible donation sites so please if you have any contacts please get in touch with them on our behalf. We need to know where and how many pillowcases the group would be able to use. I am looking forward to donating as many pillowcases as possible in Calgary and the surrounding area.

"So far I have committed to giving away 2000 pillowcases to two groups to be named shortly. I am sure you won’t let me make them all myself, will you? Of course you wouldn’t!!!  I have already received a couple dozen from you and expect to see many more over the coming months."  Sincerely, Anne Dale

Girl Guides of Canada Quilts needs to locate some Quilts – can you help???
Girl Guides of Canada is celebrating their centennial this year and Quilt Canada has asked Girl Guides to put on a Special Exhibit "100 years of Guiding" in quilts. Girl Guides have been making quilts for years, but many have been made as service projects and given away to those in need. Others have been made as gifts for retiring Guiders while others have been raffled off to raise funds for camps and activities.

So, although we have asked our Guiding members if they would like to display their quilts, we also know that there are many quilts ‘out there’ that do not belong to Guiding members, but perhaps some people would be willing to lend their ‘Guiding’ quilts to be displayed at the Quilt Canada 2010 show this year.

My Sewing Room is asking anyone with one or two of these "Guiding" quilts to email Edie Jubenville or call her directly (403)547-4742 for more information.
