FIRST TIMERS

Your first visit to My Sewing Room can be quite overwhelming, there is a large area to cover and quite a few things to see. Don't despair, we're here to help you with your journey!

Top Six Questions when visiting our store:

How much time should I give myself when visiting the store?

Plan to spend a few hours in the store, it's quite a large area to cover with projects, patterns and fabric throughout the store. You are welcome to bring a lunch or a snack and make use of the kitchen, you may also enjoy a coffee or tea and join us in the lunch room!

Can I bring in projects or get help with selecting fabric for my quilt?

My Sewing Room Staff are here to help! We can help you choose fabric, critique your project, lend advice or instill confidence in completing your project! I recommend you ask multiple staff for advice, our background experience and fabric favorites will differ!

There are soooo many quilts and other items around the store, where do I start?

The back of the store showcases current class projects, these quilts change every four months like our classes. It's nice to be able to come in to look at a project up close before deciding if the class is right for you. Feel free to bring in fabrics and approach staff about the project on the wall and the fabric you have in your hands.

The front of the store showcases various pattern designers from around the world, we'll happily sell your pattern but you need to give us a sample first so customers can see the end result! The patterns will be located close by should you see anything on the wall you like, ask staff to give you a quick hand! Staff will often make a lot of these quilts themselves, it's not uncommon for customers to turn into teachers here at MSR as a result of a pattern.
I don't see a designer I like or a pattern seems to be missing, can you get it for me?

We are ALWAYS on the look out for interesting things, Anne travels a great deal of the world attending shows and conventions trying to find interesting projects, fabric and notions to bring them back to Canada. We are always willing to support local designers and we are always interested in hearing what you think. If there is enough support for a pattern, book or line of fabric... we'll get it in! Ask staff about missing patterns as well, it could be already on order or we may have missed one!

I'm interested in a Sewing Machine, where do I start?

First, know what features you have in mind and set yourself a budget. Leave some room as there are accessories or features that you might find you like.
Secondly, we encourage you to try before you buy. All of our machines are set up for you to sit down and use, we have a wide selection of fabrics and threads. Bring in your project if you like, that's encouraged as well!
