Are you curious about the Volunteer Sewing Days on the My Sewing Room Calendar?

My Sewing Room sponsors workshop days when a group of volunteers come in to sew wheelchair accessories, sensory quilts and other useful items for Calgary's George Boyack Seniors Residences; pillowcases for the "Million Pillowcase Challenge" and Comfort Quilts for VIPS (Very Injures People, our soldiers) serving in Afghanistan.

Please visit in person between 9:30am and 11:30am or 1:15pm to 3:15pm on any GBV Day! Feb.8th, Feb.18th, Mar.4th, April 1st and May 13th!

Check back Please e-mail Jan at mjrobert66@yahoo.com for workshop details.

It is with great pleasure and sincere thanks that we report to all our volunteer sewers, sponsors, and donors, that another 119 items were delivered to the George Boyack Home last Thursday May 28th 2009.

The two large velvet shrouds (each 90" x 132"), made possible by a generous donation from the Calgary Northeast Eyeopener Lions Club, garnered heartfelt gratitude from the GB staff. An additional 47 large totes, wheelchair caddies and walker caddies; 30 lap quilts and polar fleece blankets; 26 toiletry bags, 7 sensory quilts; 4 shrugs, and 3 pairs of armest covers accounted for the rest.

The next phase of the project will involve sewing several specialty items for the comfort of wheelchair-bound residents, another 180 toiletry bags (so popular that each of the 221 residents will get one), the next 25 shrugs, several more large wheelchair caddies and large totes, a few more 'real quilt' wheelchair blankets, and lots more sensory quilts.

Thank you, My Sewing Room, for the use of your classroom for the two May workshops, for storing our boxes of sensory quilt materials, for receiving the articles brought in by our dedicated home sewers, and for publishing our photos and updates on your web site. With the support of so many, this endeavour continues to be a lot of fun for everyone involved.
